Special Edition of SAMANTICS: Disaster Management, Preparedness and Response: Call for contributions
In the light of the catastrophic fire at the University of Cape Town's Library and Archive on 18 April this year, a special edition of Samantics is being planned on Disaster Management, Preparedness and Response.
The issue will look at Disaster Management and will have contributions on the experiences of people who were involved with the response and salvage of the collection at the University of Cape Town.
We also want to make this issue to take a wider look at how SAMA members have coped with disaster affecting their own collections. We feel it is very important to include as many voices and experiences as possible in this edition. Experiences of disaster in collections vary, and we can all learn from the experiences that you may have had. We would love to hear from you.
Did you experience a disaster at your institution? How did you cope? What was the impact of the disaster on your collection / institution? What did you learn from the experience? We are looking for case studies of the disaster that affected your institution: what you experienced, what you learnt, how you coped, etc.
Please submit your contributions in line with the normal Samantics contribution limits:
- 2 000 word limit per contribution / case study
- Any accompanying photographs must be high resolution and submitted in .jpg (authors are responsible for obtaining copyright or permission to publish for images).
- To assist with editing, please identify 4-5 quotes in longer articles that can be highlighted. You can do this by highlighting it in the text
In the same edition, we would like to dedicate the Get to know our Museums Section to museum collections.
Please tell us more about your significant collections or even just one object. These contributions should not be longer than 600 words and preferably should include at least one high-resolution photograph.
